Arts Alive January 26th at 8AM: Conductor Carl St. Clair, "Up" series director Michael Apted
In 1964, "Seven Up!" followed 14 British children from varied socioeconomic backgrounds to explore the ramifications of the UK class system. Seven years later, director Michael Apted returned with the documentary "7 Plus Seven," which checked in on the original participants. Apted has returned to film those participants every seven years, creating the landmark "Up" documentary series. On Arts Alive this week, director Michael Apted talks to reporter Elaine Dutka about "56 Up," how the series took on a life of its own and how he felt when it gained adoration far beyond the borders of the UK.

Carl St. Clair wears many hats... or rather, he carries many batons. He's the Music Director of the Pacific Symphony, a globe-trotting guest conductor and the recently named Artistic Leader of the USC Thornton School Orchestras. St. Clair sits down with Alan Chapman to talk about his new role with Thornton and how to study a score by the light of an airplane seatbelt sign.
Also on Arts Alive, Dean Cutietta answers your burning musical questions on Ask the Dean and the Arts News unmasks a generous patron of the arts.
