National Recording Registry Adds 25 Inductees

Less than a month after his death, Van Cliburn has been honored by the Library of Congress, which has chosen his legendary 1958 record of the Tchaikovsky First Piano Concerto as a recording of "cultural, artistic and historical importance."  He made the recording April 11 in the wake of his sensational victory in Moscow of the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, and it became the first record by a classical performer to sell a million copies.  It joins twenty-four other distinguished recordings in the 2012 crop.
