The Opera Show

with Duff Murphy

(Saturdays, 9am-Noon; during Met Opera season, 9-10 am)

The world of opera comes alive with an enthusiastic look through the eyes of host Duff Murphy. Duff provides listeners with a taste of his love of opera — its composers, conductors and artists — with classic and newly-released recordings.

The Opera Show is made possible in part by  a grant from the Flora L. Thornton Foundation.

Program Theme music: The opening fanfare to Benjamin Britten's opera, "Gloriana"

Love this morning's show and music Duff! I don't understand people who don't like old American or patriotic songs. It seems like they're embarrassed about America. Psychologists will tell you embarrassment is due to some deep psychological problem. Maybe they need a shrink! To show his love of his new country, Igor Stravinsky composed an adaption of our National Anthem after becoming a US Citizen. Albert Einstein moved to America to leave repression and enjoy freedom. So if highly talented people and geniuses can love America, lesser humans can too!

I love the occasional varieties of music on the Opera Show-4th of July, Holiday, Broadway, etc. And I enjoy listening to various ethnic, religious music.
But why is most Jewish music so unlentingly lachrymose and lugubrious? See you next week!
