Before Elvis, before the Beatles, there was Franz Liszt. He was the world’s first musical superstar, creating a template still used by artists today. He altered the course of music with new uses of the piano, new types of programs and new forms of music. He also recognized that, with his great talent, came great responsibility, and he used his fame and fortune to assist those in need, from his fellow Hungarians to his fellow composers. He was Franz Liszt, and October 22, 2011 marked the 200th anniversary of his birth.
