The Academy Awards are Sunday, but Arts Alive is rolling out the red carpet a little early.

On this week's show, we'll talk to two costume designers up for Oscars.

Mark Bridges designed the costumes for  The Artist.

Arianne Phillips designed the costumes for the historical romance W.E.

See photos of all the costumes from nominated designers on KUSC's Oscar blog. Or see them in person at the FIDM Museum and Gallery.

Jon Burlingame has produced specials for KUSC on film music luminaries like Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann and Elmer Bernstein. On Sunday, Jon has a new special, this one on John Williams. The composer's scores for War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin are both up for Academy Awards this year. American Journey: A Tribute to John Williams airs Sunday at 1PM. Jon Burlingame gives us a preview on Arts Alive.

And we go from the screen to the stage with Dissonance. The play follows what happens to a string quartet when a rock star enters the pictures. Our reporter Laura Ornest tells us about it.

Anne Thompson and Kenneth Turan are back for Part II of their Oscar Predictions. Plus Arts News, the Around Town arts calendar and Ask the Dean.

Arts Alive airs Saturday at 8AM and is available as a podcast. For more Oscar coverage from KUSC, click here.
