Classical KUSC Presents Live Coverage of Opening Concerts at New Orange Ccounty Performing Arts Center Hall

LOS ANGELES –Classical KUSC (91.5 FM) will present a live broadcast of the opening gala concerts by the Pacific Symphony at the new Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa on Friday, September 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 16, also at 7 p.m.


The first concert features Aaron Copland’s “The Promise of Living” and renowned tenor Placido Domingo singing the world premiere of William Bolcom’s Canciones de Lorca. Mahler’s First Symphony completes that program.


For the second gala concert on Saturday, the Pacific Symphony and Pacific Chorale will present the world premiere of a new work written for the occasion by Phillip Glass: The Passion of Ramakrishna. In addition violinist Midori will be featured as soloist in the Beethoven Concerto in D Major, Op. 61with the Pacific Symphony. Both concerts will be conducted by the Pacific Symphony’s Music Director for the past sixteen years, Carl St. Clair.


On Friday, September 15th, prior to the concert at 6 p.m., KUSC will air a two-part documentary entitled Transforming OC, produced by KCRW (89.9 FM). Entitled The Best of Everything and A Magical Milestone, these programs depict the history of the dynamic growth of Orange County.


Alan Chapman and Gail Eichenthal co-host KUSC’s live broadcasts from the new hall. Eichenthal is also producer of the two-evening event.
