I'm a Classical KUSC Member... Are You?

While there are probably as many reasons for becoming a Classical KUSC member as there are members, we are always interested in hearing what prompts someone to pledge their support as well as their experience as a member. Below are a number of testimonials from dedicated members whose experience was so positive, they wanted to share it with others.

Anita Goswami, Member since 1998

Anita Goswami and her husband Tom have been members for nearly eight years, and are currently members at the Leadership Circle level. Anita says, “It’s important to support the arts… Classical KUSC presents ‘marvelous music we can’t find anywhere else.’” Among the benefits she emphasizes, she says that that as a member, she doesn’t “feel guilty when [she] listens.” She also appreciates the “tolerance and calm provided by Classical KUSC whilst driving in LA.” To encourage other members, Anita says, “It’s easy to join. Just do it! We started off as basic level members, and kept increasing [our donations] as we realized how much we enjoy listening to the station.” Anita also points out that being a Classical KUSC member is an easy, economic, clutter-free decision, “We don’t buy very many CDs because we listen to Classical KUSC!”

Erin Nielson, Member since 2000

Erin is not only a member of Classical KUSC, but also a Floor Manager during KUSC’s on-air fundraisers, so she has a very special perspective on KUSC membership. Erin donated to become a member for the first time when she heard Jim Svejda state during a fundraiser “If you listen to a public radio station such as KUSC, you should support it.” She says that there are listeners who are not financially well-off who can’t afford to support KUSC, and she thinks of her membership as a contribution to the community at large. As a member, Erin says she feels a “pride of ownership” when listening. She adds, “Although I have no children now, you better believe that someday, Classical KUSC will play an integral part of their lives…. Being a member of the station means more than just writing a check. The station is reliable and nurturing, provides serenity, a sense of community, it gives as much as it takes (so to speak). For youth (all ages, in fact) it's a good opportunity to take responsibility for your surroundings and community: you listen, you support.”

Dave Stiller, Member since 1978

“I've been a member of KUSC since the 1970’s. It was very obvious that KUSC was broadcasting great music in a format which was attractive and respectful of the music and the good taste of the listeners. As Jim Svejda says, “It’s all about the music.” KUSC respects the music, the composers, the performers and KUSC also respects the good taste of the listeners and does not take them for granted. I am proud to support KUSC, a beacon of enlightenment in an extremely pluralistic community.”

KUSC is a non-profit, listener-sponsored station that relies on financial support from the community.
Your donations ensure KUSC's dedication to high-quality and diverse programming.
