I'm a KUSC Volunteer... Are You?

I'm a Volunteer... are you?

Volunteer Nancy Napurski
Nancy volunteers as a Floor Manager during Classical KUSC’s on-air Membership Drives, supervising other volunteers who answer calls of support from listeners. Nancy’s Public Relations company, Lionheart PR, has also provided services to the station. She started off four years ago as a phone-answering volunteer during the drives, but was quickly asked to be a Floor Manager because of her excellent people skills. Nancy says that she volunteers her time at Classical KUSC because “I believe that Classical KUSC provides an important cultural and artistic service to the Los Angeles area, and I want to support those efforts in as many ways as I can.” She enjoys her time spent volunteering because of “The people and the music! I have such fun with this group of people who are as committed as I am to bringing classical music to listeners. The incredible knowledge and experiences of the volunteers and staff is amazing.” And to encourage others to volunteer, she says, “If you'd like to meet like-minded people who enjoy classical music, then volunteer your time at the station. You'll get an insider's peek into the world of radio, including visits from Classical KUSC announcers… it’s fun, exciting, and a great way to support the arts in Los Angeles.”

Volunteer Sid Singer
Sid has been volunteering at Classical KUSC for almost 13 years! He began his tenure as a phone-answering volunteer during the Winter 1992 Membership Drive, and was asked to assist the membership department on a regular basis in Classical KUSC’s administrative offices. Sid helps out twice a week, and assists processing payroll donations from USC employees and processing matching gifts from KUSC members’ companies. He has this to say about his volunteer work at Classical KUSC, “Soon after my retirement I realized that there was a need for occupation beyond employment… I have always enjoyed classical music… And being able to share with KUSC has always been rewarding. My work there is fairly detailed and it helps me stay alert as well as involved.” Sid also volunteers with other non-profit cultural organizations and government agencies.

Volunteers Phyline and Paul Polakoff
Phyline and Paul Polakoff have been KUSC volunteers for six years. They come in to answer calls of support during Classical KUSC’s on-air membership drives and help mail out thank you gifts and pledge bills after the drives. They enjoy speaking with fellow music lovers on the phone and hearing what those listeners have to say about the pleasures that KUSC gives them. Phyline says, “This is so inspiring. Classical music lives!” The Polakoffs also enjoy mixing with other volunteers, exchanging ideas and experiences. Phyline says, “It feels good to give back to the radio station that gives so much to us.”
