But O’Halloran’s unconventional teacher didn’t just show him the notes, she taught him to make them his own. And now he’s taken home an Emmy for his music in the TV show Transparent. Our interview with O’Halloran is on this week’s Arts Alive podcast. Plus a preview of the Pasadena Playhouse’s Fly, inspired by the Tuskegee Airmen; film critic Kenneth Turan talks about Sundance standouts; on Ask the Dean… what happened to Lakme?
