Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and The Edge of Tomorrow

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is opening at the Mark Taper Forum – the story of what happens when art and racial tension collide with the business of the blues. We take you backstage to talk to director Phylicia Rashad and actor Jason Dirden. Plus KUSC’s Local Composers Project, explores how Southern California has emerged as such a fertile field for classical music, with the creators of an opera performed only once, at a specific moment with special meaning for ancient Mayans. And Kenneth Turan talks film, before we Ask the Dean about geniuses.
