The Bigger Picture
$1.1 billion in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has been rescinded.
This action will dismantle the public media system as we know it—a system that supports more than 1,300 local public media stations, including Classical California, NPR, and PBS.
Why CPB Matters
The CPB is a private, nonprofit corporation, but its role is essential:
It ensures that news, music, educational content, and cultural programming remain accessible to everyone—free of charge and free of paywalls.
It acts as a firewall between public media and partisan politics.
It provides critical funding for programming, stations, and technology.
How We’re Funded
Classical California is:
80% listener-supported
12% funded by underwriting from corporate and arts partners
6% from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
We are earmarked to lose over $1.1 million in annual funding almost immediately.
